Privacy policy
Last updated: November 3, 2026. Plain-English version first; it is the policy.
The short version
- We collect information from parents, never from children. Kids don't make accounts, and the free lessons collect no personal information from them.
- If you join the waitlist we keep your email, your quiz answers (your child's age band and starting level, no names or birthdates), and how you found us.
- We never sell your information. You can unsubscribe or ask us to delete everything at any time.
- On parent pages (not the kids' lessons) we use the Meta Pixel to measure our ads. You can turn this off below, and we honor Global Privacy Control automatically.
Who we are
Read with Mip ("we") makes phonics lessons and printable books for children ages 3–7, designed to be used with a parent or guardian. Contact: [email protected]. Postal address: see the footer of any email from us.
Children's privacy (COPPA)
Our free lessons at /play are made for children to use with a grown-up. In the lessons:
- We do not collect names, photos, voice recordings, email addresses, locations, contact lists or any other personal information from children.
- We do not use cookies, advertising IDs, third-party analytics, ads or tracking pixels.
- Progress (which lessons are done, how the garden looks, and an optional first name typed for the celebration card) is stored only on your device, in the browser. It is never sent to us. You can clear it with "Reset" in the grown-ups' menu or by clearing your browser's site data.
- The lessons send us anonymous counts only (for example "lesson 1 started" or "lesson 1 finished") with no identifier, so we can tell if the lessons work. Our hosting provider necessarily receives your device's IP address to deliver pages; we use it only to serve the site and keep it secure, and we do not store it with these counts.
- The celebration card is made on your device. If you choose to share it, you share it directly from your device; we never receive it.
- Links out of the lessons (to the waitlist, printable book or sharing) sit behind a grown-ups-only step.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
What we collect from parents, and why
- Waitlist: your email; the exact consent wording you agreed to and when; quiz answers (child's age band, starting level, your main goal); how you found us (ad campaign tags or an invite code). Used to send the printable books, lesson tips and launch news, and to understand which channels work. Our email provider (Brevo) receives your email and only the starting level, so tips match where your child is; your other answers stay with us.
- Invites: if you join with another parent's link, we note that link's code so we can send you both Book 2. We do not tell them your email.
- Founding Family pre-orders (only when open): your email and payment details. Card details go directly to Stripe; we store only Stripe's reference IDs, your charge date and your consent.
- Site measurement on parent pages: anonymous daily counts of page views and quiz starts/finishes. If not turned off, the Meta Pixel and Meta's Conversions API receive page events and, when you join, a scrambled (hashed) copy of your email, to measure and improve our ads. Meta also receives standard technical data (IP address, browser type, Meta cookies). Meta receives only the event name (for example "Lead"); it never receives your quiz answers or anything about your child (no age, starting level or goal).
Your privacy choices
Under some US state laws (like California's), using the Meta Pixel for ad measurement can count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising. We honor Global Privacy Control automatically. You can also turn it off for this browser here:
Who we share it with
Only service providers that help us run the site, under contracts that limit their use of your data: Cloudflare (hosting and database), Brevo (email delivery), Stripe (payments, only for pre-orders), and Meta (ad measurement on parent pages, unless you opt out). We never sell your information, and never share children's information because we don't collect it.
How long we keep it
- Waitlist data: until you unsubscribe and ask us to delete it, or 24 months after our last email to you, whichever comes first. Unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted after 30 days.
- Pre-order and billing records: as long as you're a customer, plus what tax and accounting law requires.
- Anonymous counts: kept, because they contain no personal information.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your information at any time: use the unsubscribe link in any email (it includes a "delete everything" option) or email [email protected]. We'll respond within 30 days.
Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), keep data in access-controlled systems, collect as little as possible, and limit access to the people who run Read with Mip.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and, for big changes, email waitlist members first.
